Quadient teamed up with Keypoint Intelligence to gain global insight into why an increasing number of SMBs are opting to outsource their multi-channel communications to PSPs. Keypoint Intelligence conducted a survey on behalf of Quadient of 498 organizations in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States (U.S.). The respondents represented a mix of business sizes, with the highest concentration within small and medium-size organizations. Respondents come from a broad range of industries, of which the top five verticals included government, healthcare (insurance excluded), manufacturing, business services and non-profits.
53% of the sample resides in the United States and the remaining 47% is from Western Europe (WE). Although the respondents represent a broad range of industries; they have one common characteristic: they all send relatively high volumes of communications to customers. Volumes of communications sent monthly range between less than 3,000 to 3,000-10,000 and over 10,000 pieces.

Many SMBs are forming strong partnerships with PSPs in an effort to address the growing complexity of multi-channel customer engagement. They are realizing important benefits including the ability to communicate across physical and digital channels to reduce cost, improve the customer experience, and deliver a consistent level and character of interaction throughout the customer lifecycle.
PSPs enable companies to get print communications out to market faster and empower their employees to focus on core business initiatives. Added benefits that SMBs enjoy include enhanced security processes, access to mailing discounts, and reduced costs.
Print communications cut through digital clutter, create a more lasting impression, evoke a stronger emotional attachment, result in better recall and often serve as a reminder for payments. Additionally, for companies with limited access to secure email, it is still safer to use physical mail delivery for critical documents.
- Leading factors that support using print communications are security, customer expectations, company policy/standard procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Additional key benefits of using print communications include security, personal touch, demographics, and lack of technology to enable digital communications.
Additionally, many PSPs have also adopted various digital channels. This empowers SMBs with the opportunity to leverage a proper mix of print and digital communications for outreach communications throughout their strategies, maximizing the unique attributes to provide a consistent look and feel to customers.
Today’s PSPs have come to expect relevant solutions that accommodate their customers’ unique and rapidly changing needs. PSPs need to be able to produce more communications across multiple channels, deal with more customers, and handle more job changes.
