There are many changes happening lately, especially in the mailing industry. Mail has been a constant through this year, while digital communications have also increased.
Companies had to evolve their communication methods due to the increase of remote employees. Just because employees went remote, it did not mean communication outreach halted. Companies are still finding new ways of expediting communications, by outsourcing mail, taking a more hybrid approach, and working with customers through email or portals. Each company is at a different stage – as the pandemic has caused various companies to accelerate their digital transformation process, while other companies are further along (since they may have already been planning or implementing a process prior to the pandemic).
Additionally, there are many verticals are at different stages. For instance, the Financial and Telecom sectors have well-established digital transformation processes, while Healthcare and Public Sectors are still in the early stages due to privacy and security reasons.
The reason various industries are still in the early stages is that in U.S., U.K., and Ireland (and elsewhere) – those industries still have to deliver physical mail (though they can still have a digital option, print is mandatory). In addition, various documents will always be physical, such as medical documentation, tax forms/returns, and more. While those industries remain strong with print outreach, they still need to consider their customer’s preferences. When you look at your insurance and telecom companies – they are responding a faster in terms of giving their customers a choice on how to receive their communication.
That said, certain customers are moving away from physical mail and requesting more digital communications. Certain countries have government initiatives noting that companies need to post into digital mailboxes and portals. As of today, there are no current regulatory mandates that prohibit digital communications, and as a result, within the next few years, there will certainly move to digital as the way of communicating.
